Dave and Jane, husband and wife, are the owners of Select Eyecare, with over 50 years of combined optical experience. They offer expert eye care and an extensive selection of eyewear and personalized customer service.
After attending Anoka Technical College and graduating with a degree in Optical Technology, Dave gained experience working in labs and eventually opened his own wholesale optical lab, The-Len’s Co. In 1996, Dave purchased the first Select Eyecare location in Monticello, MN. Jane and Dave met performing in a local community theatre production and eventually worked together. Dave assumed with Jane’s degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education, stated “since you are good with music you would be good with numbers”. Jane enter the family business and has had success in managing the three locations. They soon opened additional locations in both Anoka and Coon Rapids. Each location continues to provide personalized service that you can’t find at discount giants and major chains, yet still offer highly competitive prices along with quality and fashion.
Dave and Jane continue to have a passion for the performing arts, spending time with their adult children Nathan, Becca, and Erica, as well as biking and walking their dog Charlie.
Dr. Jean Layman is an optometrist at Select Eyecare. She has been practicing optometry for over 30 years. Dr. Layman is refraction expert and great at fitting contact lenses for patients. Dr. Layman has been working at Select Eyecare for over 20 years. She accepts most insurances and is available for appointments for routine eye exams and contact lens fittings at our Coon Rapids and Anoka Locations Only! What is your background in optical?: I have been in optics since 2007 and have received an ABO certification. Have done almost everything in the optical world!
What is a fun fact about you?: I am the artistic director of Orthogonal Theater Company.
Favorite thing to do when not working?: Gaming and wood carving. My Play Station is my best friend. I also make custom wands!
What is a pet peeve you have?: Loud chewing. It’s the worst!
What is your background in optical?: I’ve been in the optical field for six years now. I started in an optical lab, where I learned the behind-the-scenes side of the industry, and now I’m on the patient care and sales side helping patients find the right eyewear!
What is a fun fact about you?: I’m a self-proclaimed coffee enthusiast and love discovering new coffee shops.
What do you enjoy doing when not working?: I love hiking and spending time outdoors with my husband and our golden retriever, Mia.
What is a pet peeve of yours?: Itchy clothing tags!
What is your background in optical?: I stepped away for a few years but I previously worked in the eye industry for 12 years as a doctor’s technician. My last job was working in Ophthalmology as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.
What is a fun fact about you?: I work as a Security Supervisor at The Armory in Minneapolis.
What do you enjoy doing when not working?: I enjoy listening to music and podcasts, reading, going for walks and watching crime solving shows.
What is a pet peeve of yours?: When people don’t properly zipper merge.
What do you like about working at Select Eyecare?: The best part is being part of the community and getting to know our customers. we get to learn peoples unique needs and know what products best serve them.
What is a fun fact about you?: I have a very keen sense of smell that sometimes is a good thing and sometimes not!
What do you enjoy doing when not working?: taking road trips and discovering new places, camping, and hanging out with my family and friends!
What is a pet peeve of yours?: Slow drivers in the left lane!
What is your background?: I have a bachelors and masters degree in Music Education from Concordia College – Moorhead and North Dakota State University. I have been working at Select Eyecare for the last two years at each location. Love helping people find frames that they love!
What is your favorite Starbucks drink?: My go to is anything iced, usually a shaken espresso or iced coffee.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?: BIKE!
